Shopping and a Spider

Saturday afternoon we went car shopping.  Car shopping in Puerto Rico is quite the experience!  There are car dealers all over the place.  You just drive from one to the other looking for what you want.  Jake’s co-worker Gilbert offered to come with us, which was so nice- because we would have been lost without him!

Every time we found a car we wanted to look at, he would talk to the salesmen for us.  We had many jokes from Gilbert along the way!  Jake even earned himself a new nickname- blanquito (whitey) after Gilbert’s dog!

Car shopping took about 4 hours.  We didn’t find what we wanted, but we did drive an Impala!  Not going to lie, KC enjoyed the test drive in the Amerian car!  I’m sure Jake would have been teased a lot if he went with that option, and there aren’t very many so we wouldn’t be able to resell it.  So, the hunt continues…

After car shopping, we went to one of our favorite places One Ten Thai.  We were starving, and enjoyed a great meal there!  We’re learning that when you’re in Puerto Rico things might take longer than you thought, and we need to start carrying water and snacks with us.

Then we went to the Econo for our first grocery run.  We got a lot of the essentials, and some comfort food we were happy to find from the states.  Food is generally more expensive here, and we're looking forward to getting fruit and vegetables from the farmer’s market or road-side stands.

As we were leaving Econo, we encountered a spider the size of a baseball!  Jake was reaching over to open KC's car door when he saw it.  He told KC to get out of the car, and then he started getting out of the car while it was still moving.  He got back in, put it in park, and started looking for the spider.  He found it on the dash and attempted to kill it with his shoe.  It ran and hid somewhere in the car.  We left all the car doors open, and just sat in the Econo parking lot.  (We didn’t know if this was a poisonous spider, or not- just that it was HUGE!)

Eventually, a man offered to help (maybe it was because we were blocking his way in the parking lot).  We used a phone flashlight to find the spider.  The man was impressed by the spiders size, but he grabbed a tissue and killed it.  Native Puerto Ricans confirmed it was a big daddy long leg, and not poisonous.
